Leaving Social Issues to Society

by  Circe Cicero

The War on Drugs is a lost cause, Roe v. Wade will never be overturned, queers will marry, illegal immigration will continue. Conservative efforts at reversing the social tide are doomed.

According to Gallup, 58 percent of Americans favor legalization of marijuana. It’s up from 12 percent in 1969 at the height of hippie counterculture.

Taxes could be raised to finance the present 15 billion dollars per year wasted in the War on Drugs.Or drugs could be legalized. Stoners would smoke pot, drop acid, and huff paint. None of it should concern conservatives; what you do with your own body is nobody’s business but your own.

Roe v. Wade is regularly challenged and never overturned.  According to Gallup, only 29% of Americans favor overturning Roe v. Wade. Let abortion wipe out the next generation of liberals.

More than a dozen states have legalized gay marriage in the wake of the overturned “Defense of Marriage Act”. End government involvement in marriage.

Illegal immigrants (and immigrants of all stripes) will take any chance they can to improve their plight. According to the Center for Immigration Studies, there is anywhere between 7 and 20 million illegal immigrants in the US. You’ll never get rid of them. Let Mexicans do the work Americans won’t.

End and inhibit any efforts at government control. Let society’s social issues solve themselves.

The laws written as malicious medicine to regulate those you abhor, walls on the borders (Mexico or Berlin!), the prisons for victimless crimes and government apparatus used to dictate the lives of others can be turned against you.

Instead of seeking to control others and dictate their lives, a nobler and more realistic purpose for society is to find common ground in resisting control.

Government is conformity and control. Laws are not enforced by suggestion and taxes are not raised by donations, but by both extortion at gunpoint and imprisonment. You cannot legislate morality.

Societies do not collapse when hooligans play loud music. Societies collapse when individuals are forced to conform to a mold they do not fit.
